Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan sentenced PML-N’s senator Nehal Hashmi for one month imprisonment and disqualified him for holding public office for upcoming five years in the contempt of court.
The three members bench of Apex court, headed by Justice Asif Khosa, also imposed a fine of PKR 50,000 on Nehal Hashmi.
Hashmi wrote an apology to the court, but his apology was dismissed. On 28th May 2017, Hashmi threatened Judges and Members of JIT in a public address.
After the announcement of verdict, Hashmi was taken into the custody of Police. The decision was announced by 2-1. Two Judges announced punishment against the senator while Justice Dost Muhammad has wroten a note in the case.
The verdict announced today is not unanimous. While two judges on the bench agreed to the punishment announced against Hashmi, Justice Dost Mohammad has written a dissenting note in the case that is expected to be made available later.
The Video of Hashmi’s threatening speech got viral on social media and was also aired on TV channels. His controversial speech led him in hot water as his party asked his resignation from Senate.
